For the Love of Theatre

  • An Introductory Drama Class for Kids

    For the Love of Theater is a fun and engaging drama class designed to introduce young performers to the many exciting elements of the stage. Students will explore a variety of theatrical skills including improvisation, pantomime, theater games, basic acting techniques, creative movement, simple directing concepts, and musical theater.

    Through playful exercises and collaborative activities, students will build confidence, creativity, teamwork, and self-expression. This class encourages imagination and a love for performance in a supportive, age-appropriate environment.

    The end of the semester will conclude with a showcase performance where students will share what they’ve learned, highlighting scenes, games, songs and choreography. Students will help choose what they want to showcase! 

    No prior theater experience is required just curiosity, creativity, and a love for theater!

Phonics Level 1

    This class is designed for beginning readers who are learning early phonics skills such as letter sounds, CVC words, beginning blends, and word families.

    Instruction is rooted in the Science of Reading and follows a phonics-based approach that builds strong decoding and early reading skills. We use Secret Stories to make phonics engaging, meaningful, and easy to remember by connecting sounds to fun, memorable stories.

    All classes are hands-on and movement-based, incorporating kinesthetic learning to support focus, retention, and joyful learning. Students actively participate through games, songs, movement, and interactive activities that help phonics “stick.”

    This class builds a strong foundation for confident readers while keeping learning fun, supportive, and developmentally appropriate.

  • Phonics Level 2 (Grades 1–3)

    This class is designed for 1st–3rd grade readers who are ready to strengthen and expand their phonics and reading skills. Students work on blends, digraphs, long and short vowels, word families, syllable types, and early spelling patterns, while continuing to build fluency and confidence.

    Instruction is grounded in the Science of Reading and follows a structured, phonics-based approach that supports strong decoding and comprehension skills. We use Secret Stories to reinforce phonics concepts in a fun, memorable way that helps students understand the why behind spelling and reading patterns.

    All classes are hands-on and movement-based, incorporating kinesthetic learning to support focus, retention, and joyful learning. Lessons include interactive games, movement activities, reading practice, and multi-sensory strategies that keep students engaged while deepening understanding.

    This class helps students become more confident, capable readers while strengthening the foundational skills needed for independent reading and academic success.

  • Beginner Sewing Studio

    No experience? No sewing machine? No problem!

    This beginner-friendly sewing class is perfect for students who are brand new to sewing and ready to learn hands-on in a creative, supportive environment.

    We provide sewing machines for class use, so students do not need to own one. Students who already have a sewing machine are welcome to bring it. It’s often fun to learn on your own machine! Class size is limited to 8 students to ensure individualized instruction and plenty of hands-on help.

    Students will learn the fundamentals of sewing, including:

    • Parts of the sewing machine

    • Threading the machine and loading the bobbin

    • Basic stitching techniques and sewing safety

    • Common sewing terms and tools

    • Fabric types and how to choose the right fabric

    • Reading patterns and measuring sizes

    • Pinning, cutting, and assembling projects

    This mixed-age class (ages 8–17) is designed to build confidence, creativity, and practical skills, while students create real projects they’ll be excited to take home.

  • This class introduces students to the art of photography!

    Students learn the fundamentals of using DSLR cameras, including how to adjust the manual settings, change lenses, and taking photos through a creative lens. Assignments include photo scavenger hunts, experimenting with composition techniques, taking photos of school events, and showcasing their work in creative ways.

    Through detailed explanations from the teacher, hands-on assignments out on the playground, and constructive critiques of each other’s photos, students will develop a strong photographic vision and learn to create impactful images, whether they’re shooting portraits, landscapes, or everyday moments.

  • Students will receive dedicated time, structure, and individualized support to develop their writing skills. We’ll guide them through the full writing process from brainstorming and drafting to revising, editing, and finally publishing their work.

    Writer’s Workshop builds on the skills students are learning in class, while offering a more focused small-group setting where they can gain confidence, receive personalized feedback, and grow as writers.

GAME MAKERS LAB

  • This class introduces students to the fundamentals of game design through both board games and movement-based games.

    Students design, test, and play simple tabletop and physical games that incorporate movement, spatial awareness, and active participation.  Instruction focuses on core design elements such as game boards, movement paths, rules, turn-taking, and fair play.  Activities include creating path and loop games, designing gross-motor challenges (such as hopping, balancing, or navigating spaces), using symbols and visual cues to guide gameplay.

    Through teacher-led instruction, guided practice, active play-testing, and reflection, students develop early problem-solving, logical thinking, collaboration, and kinesthetic learning skills  while  creating games that are engaging, purposeful and fun.
