They are flourishing in their classes, excited about the field trips, making great friendships, and looking forward to continue learning new useful life skills each day. The teachers are all accredited, fun, and really know how to light up a teenager's mind. We are excited to grow with the school as they continue to expand!”

  • “I am so glad that we found Creative Steam for my son. He is currently taking the hands-on science class and it is amazing! They do the coolest things. It's a very nice community that they have created and we are so glad to be a part of it! So excited that they are adding core classes next school year too! I highly recommend Creative Steam.”

    Parent - Michelle

  • “When I asked my son what he learned today, he said, ‘Learned? Nothing—we played, explored, and had so much fun!’ Then he proceeded to tell me all the things he had actually learned. That’s what makes Creative STEAM so special. Kids are so engaged, having so much fun, and learning so much that they do not even realize how much they are absorbing. It takes away the pressure and replaces it with joyful, meaningful learning.”

Info & FAQs

  • Creative STEAM Academy is a private homeschool learning center located in Laguna Woods, serving families throughout South Orange County.

We offer a thoughtfully designed, academically rich program that blends the flexibility of homeschooling with the structure, support, and community of a classroom environment. Through hands-on, project-based learning, students engage in meaningful academic and life-skill experiences that encourage curiosity, creativity, confidence, and a genuine love of learning.

  • Creative STEAM Academy is neither a traditional private school nor a charter school. We are a private homeschool learning center designed to give families the best of both worlds: the quality, structure, and academic support of a private school environment, with the flexibility and parent-choice freedom of homeschooling.

We proudly support both charter-funded families and private-pay families, allowing parents to choose the educational path that works best for their child.

  • Yes. Creative STEAM Academy is a drop-off program, giving students a structured, engaging learning environment while allowing families the flexibility they value.

    Our current program hours are:

    CORE Program: Monday–Thursday, 9:00 AM–2:00 PM

  • At Creative STEAM Academy, class placements are made thoughtfully and intentionally. We consider each student’s academic background, prior learning experience, developmental readiness, and social-emotional needs to help place them in the environment where they are most likely to thrive.

Because each classroom develops its own unique learning profile from year to year, placements may vary depending on the needs, strengths, and dynamics of the student group. Our goal is always to create balanced classrooms that support meaningful learning, confidence, connection, and growth.

  • Enrollment at Creative STEAM Academy begins with a simple, family-centered admissions process designed to make sure our program is the right fit for your child.

Families start by clicking the “Schedule My Tour” link at the top of the page to book a campus tour and family interview. In some cases, a trial class may also be recommended so your student can experience our learning environment firsthand.

At Creative STEAM Academy, we value strong alignment between our mission, vision, values, and the families we serve. This helps ensure a positive, supportive, and successful experience for every student and family.

  • Creative STEAM Academy offers open enrollment throughout the school year, based on availability in each classroom.

If space is available, we’re happy to welcome new students after the Fall start date and help them transition smoothly into our program. If a classroom is currently full, families may join our waitlist, and we do our best to offer placement as soon as space becomes available.

  • Yes. Creative STEAM Academy partners with independent vendors who accept charter funds for select classes offered on our campus.

Families are welcome to enroll with the homeschool charter of their choice, and our vendor partners currently work with many charter schools, including Suncoast Prep, BEST Academy, Cabrillo Point, Excel, iLEAD, Sky Mountain, Scale, and more.

Because charter approvals can vary by school and program, we recommend confirming details during the enrollment process so we can help guide you toward the best options for your family.

  • Charter funding varies by school, student, program, and family plan, so we are not able to determine or track how much funding each student has available.

If your charter allows funds to be used for approved classes offered through our vendor partners, we are happy to accept those funds toward eligible classes at Creative STEAM Academy.

We recommend checking directly with your charter school or educational facilitator to confirm your student’s available funds, approved vendors, and coverage details.

  • Charter schools may have their own policies about how charter funds can be used, but families are still welcome to make private educational choices outside of their charter funding.

At Creative STEAM Academy, families may use approved charter funds for eligible vendor classes when available, and they may also choose to privately pay for programs, classes, or enrichment opportunities that fall outside of their charter’s coverage.

Because every charter has different rules and funding guidelines, we always recommend confirming directly with your charter school or educational facilitator. Our team is happy to help you understand which Creative STEAM offerings may be eligible for charter funding and which may require private pay.

  • This is something families occasionally hear from their charter school, and it’s important to understand the difference between charter requirements and the Creative STEAM Academy approach.

Charter schools may be required to track student progress according to grade-level standards. At Creative STEAM Academy, our mission is to meet students where they are, support their individual learning needs, and help them grow with confidence, curiosity, and mastery.

Our personalized approach allows students to strengthen foundational skills, move at an appropriate pace, and receive support in the areas where they need it most. While this may sometimes look different from a strictly grade-level model, we believe meaningful learning happens when students are supported as whole children—not rushed through material before they are ready.

Families should communicate directly with their charter teacher or educational facilitator to understand their specific charter requirements while also choosing the learning environment that best supports their child.

  • An IEP is a public school document, and while Creative STEAM does not create or formally implement IEPs, we are happy to review and consider students with diagnosed learning differences on a case-by-case basis.

Please note: We do not have a SPED, STS, or SAI department in place to provide services or accommodations, nor do we offer one-on-one aides. All students must be able to participate in a classroom setting in a cooperative manner, work independently and in groups, and maintain appropriate behavior without disrupting the learning environment. Creative STEAM does not handle behavioral issues.

  • We do not hold any records of attendance for our students. However, we do require families to sign a homework policy and commit to the completion of assignments if they need to be absent from class.

  • Our program is academically rigorous compared to most homeschool programs. All of our classes are taught by credentialed teachers with years of experience, ensuring high-quality instruction.

Unlike many homeschool programs where parents serve as the primary teachers and classes act mainly as support, at Creative STEAM it is our teachers who lead the learning. They introduce new concepts, set the pace, monitor progress, and make placement decisions based on how students perform in the classroom. Parents simply reinforce learning at home with minimal, intentional homework.

This approach allows students to thrive under professional guidance while still preserving the flexibility and support of homeschooling.

  • No, we do not require parents to volunteer.

  • For the safety of our students, Creative STEAM maintains a secure campus. Security cameras are located throughout the campus and around the exterior. The gate and building doors remain locked at all times, and entry is only permitted when a staff member allows access. All students are checked in and out daily to ensure accountability and security, and may only be released to authorized individuals approved for pickup.
